Chris Balestrieri
Director

Chris Balestrieri is in his eighth year coaching volleyball and his fifth year at Peninsula Juniors. This is his second year as an active board member and his first year serving as club director. Chris performs all administrative functions for PJV and the Tribe and is an active coach. He currently coaches the Peninsula Juniors 16 Gold team.

Chris is currently active in volleyball in various forms. The longest tenured coach at PJV, Chris has coached at various ages and levels over the years. His 2010 season with the Peninsula Juniors 15 Gold team was very successful finishing seventh in their Power League Regionals and finishing fourteenth out of sixty-eight in the 15s Division.

In addition to club, Chris remains active in the high school volleyball scene. He currently is the assistant varsity coach for the boys varsity team at Sacred Heart Preparatory. The program started with a single JV team in 2009 and continues to make strides with Chris's guidance. SHP currently has a boys varsity team and competes in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, El Camino Division. Chris got his high school coaching start at St. Ignatius College Preparatory as a Junior Varsity assistant. He later moved on to Junipero Serra High School for the 2006 season to be the JV head coach and Varsity assistant. The next season, he was promoted to Varsity head coach. In his two seasons as head coach at Serra playing in the ultra competitive WCAL, Chris lead the program to a 20 plus win season in 2008 and a CCS berth. In the fall of 2007, Chris also served as the junior varsity coach at Notre Dame Belmont.

When he isn't coaching, he still finds ways to be involved. Chris also works as a certified referee when he's not coaching and recently refereed girls high school matches in the fall of 2010. In the few moments he isn't coaching, he still finds time to be a presence for all PJV teams. Over the past five seasons with PJV, Chris has shown a strong dedication to the club and an eagerness learn his craft. He is currently IMPACT and CAP I certified and is a part of the Positive Coach Alliance. He is looking forward to directing PJV and is excited for upcoming seasons.

 

Eric Ballelos
Club Head Coach

This is Eric's first year as the club head coach at Peninsula Juniors. He brings a wealth of experience from different age groups and levels. Looking to hone in on his craft, Eric is IMPACT and CAP I certified. He also participated at the High Performance Coaches' Clinic this January in Colorado Springs. This summer, Eric will also be assisting with the NCVA HP Youth White team which will be competing in Tuscon, AZ for the High Performance Championships.

Eric's coaching beginnings start as Junior Varsity head coach at Serra in the spring of 2007. He worked his way up to Varsity head coach in 2009 and in the past two season, Serra would advance to the semifinals of the ultra competitive WCAL playoff as well as qualify for CCS.

At the club level, Eric restarted Peninsula Tribe and opened it to the public in the fall of 2008. Tribe is the only boys club volleyball program in the San Mateo area. He also started coaching girls club volleyball with PJV in the 2009 season coaching 14s for two years and coaching the 17s this season.

As a player, Eric played volleyball at UC Davis and San Francisco State. During his time at SFSU, he also worked as a volunteer assistant for the women's intercollegiate team. There he assists using the statistical analysis program, DataVolley.

After three full years with Peninsula Juniors—3 with Tribe and 3 with PJV—Eric remains excited about the potential of the club. Eric's main goal is to provide the kids a fun and enriching opportunity to play volleyball, just like his coaches in the past gave him. In addition to being the club head coach, Eric is also the Tribe club director.

 

Shelley Signori
Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

This is Shelley's second year working with Peninsula Juniors. Shelley is a certified personal trainer (through the National Academy of Sports Medicine ) and the founder of Beyond Fitness. She is a graduate and volleyball alumnus of Notre Dame, Belmont and Santa Clara University. While in high school she also played for four years at PJV. Shelley graduated from Santa Clara with a degree in marketing in 2007 and has worked in sales for the past two years. She has a thriving business as a health and fitness coach, providing in-home personalized training and nutritional consultation.
